Dwelling in the Word is a weekly online gathering for ministry leaders and pastors — a sacred pause to slow down, breathe deeply, and hear what God is speaking through scripture.

What Is Dwelling in the Word?
Dwelling in the Word is a variation on an ancient way of reading scripture — a type of scripture meditation rooted in Lectio Divina, which is Latin for "divine reading." It has been practiced by Christians for centuries as a way of opening the heart to God's voice.
In this practice, we don't come to the text as its interpreters. Instead, we create space around the text so we can hear what God is speaking to us. We submit ourselves spiritually to the scripture and come to it with a willingness to be shaped by what God might want to say.
In this way, we ourselves are being interpreted by the text as we listen to it — not the other way around.
Each week, we gather online to journey through the weekly texts of the Revised Common Lectionary together. Ministry leaders and pastors from across the country slow down, breathe deeply, and share with one another as we listen for God's leading.
The Practice
How It Works
Opening Prayer
We invite God to speak and ask for the ability to hear God's voice.
First Reading
The text is read aloud slowly by one voice.
A Moment of Silence
A short pause for the words to settle.
Second Reading
A second voice reads the same text slowly again.
Deeper Reflection
A longer silence for personal reflection, guided by three questions.
Reflection Questions
- "What catches your attention in this text?"
- "What questions does this text raise for you?"
- "What do you think God might be saying to you through this text?"
You can answer one or all of them — what's most important is that you follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in this practice.
